Ammonia Photolysis and the Greenhouse Effect in the Primordial Atmosphere of the Earth

چکیده
Photochemical calculations indicate that in the prebiotic atmosphere of the Earth ammonia would have been irreversibly converted to N2 in less than 40 years if the ammonia surface mixing ratio were _~10 -4. However, if a continuous outgassing of ammonia were maintained, radiative equilibrium calculations indicate that a surface mixing ratio of ammonia of 10 -5 or greater would provide a sufficient greenhouse effect to keep the surface temperature above freezing. With a 10 -4 mixing ratio of ammonia, 60 to 70cfv of the present day solar luminosity would be adequate to maintain surface temperatures above freezing. A lower limit to the time constant for accumulation of an amount of nitrogen equivalent to the present day value is 10 my if the outgassing were such as to provide a continuous surface mixing ratio of ammonia ~ 10 -5.

Investigation of the Effect of Atmosphere on the Pores of Sintered Astaloy CrM Steel
Abstract Image analysis is used to study the effect of sintering atmosphere and sintering times on the pores morphology of Astaloy CrM. The pores morphology was described by means of some parameters, Circular Diameter (DC)- which shows the diameter of equivalent circle for comparing the pore size, FElongation and FShape- which have different geometrical meanings. The results have been interpret...

things. There was no flora, no fauna; the Earth was completely barren of life. Instead of having an atmosphere rich in nitrogen and oxygen as it is today, the atmosphere on primitive Earth was composed primarily of methane, ammonia, hydrogen gas and water vapor. The lack of a protective ozone layer resulted inhigh exposure to UV light and radiation. Earth was also extremely volcanically active ...
متن کاملThe Evolution of the Atmosphere of the Earth
Computer simulations of the evolution of the Earth's atmospheric composition and surface temperature have been carried out. The program took into account changes in the solar luminosity, variations in the Earth's albedo, the greenhouse effect, variation in the biomass, and a variety of geochemical processes. Results indicate that prior to two billion years ago the Earth had a partially reduced ...
متن کاملSpontaneous Adsorption, and Selective Sensing of CO, and CO2 Greenhouse Gaseous Species by the more Stable Forms of N4B4 Clusters
Carbon oxide gaseous species are potentially considered as pollutants of the atmosphere of earth; especially, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide which are of the well-known carbon oxids, play an effective role in the greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, these species could initiate or handle some chain reactions in the troposphere that lead to emergence of some secondly air pollutants which may ...

Solar evolution implies, for contemporary albedos and atmospheric composition, global mean temperatures below the freezing point of seawater less than 2.3 aeons ago, contrary to geologic and paleontological evidence. Ammonia mixing ratios of the order of a few parts per million in the middle Precambrian atmosphere resolve this and other problems. Possible temperature evolutionary tracks for Ear...
